Providence officer escorting funeral procession struck by a car

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence police officer suffered serious injuries after being struck by a car in Cranston Friday.

The Cranston Police Department said the officer was struck while escorting a funeral procession through Cranston.

A spokesperson for Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said the officer was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment and the driver remained on scene.

Cranston police are investigating the incident.
