Providence officials urge residents to exercise caution during extreme heat conditions

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence officials are getting ready for this week’s heat advisory.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Monday July 15, with heat index temperatures of 95-100 degrees expected in the city of Providence.

The same extreme heat is expected to last into Wednesday before cooler temperatures arrive on Thursday, according to a release.

Mayor Brett Smiley and the Providence Emergency Management Agency/Providence Recreation Department has announced that cooling centers will be available and open from Monday to Wednesday.

Officials are urging residents to be cautious during these extreme temperatures.

Pools, splashpads, and water parks will be open with extended hours from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. until July 17.
