Providence officials have announced they will be suspending the open-container laws for certain areas downtown and on Federal Hill starting Thursday.

They’re hopeful that there won’t be any issues.

The downtown drinking zone stretches between Fountain and Washington Streets from Dorrance down to Empire.

Visitors will be allowed to drink alcohol in that area from 3-11pm on Thursday and Friday and from noon-11pm on Saturday, as long as their drink is in a plastic cup.

Several other streets will be closed as well for outdoor beer tents and restaurants to set up.

The venues will be holding St. Patrick’s Day parties, Waterfire and March Madness events, making for a busy weekend here in the Capital City.

Trinity Brewhouse said it’s prepping for what could be one of their biggest weeks, but since they’ve held March Madness events before, they’re more than prepared.

There will also be a drinking zone on Federal Hill – on Atwells Ave between Acorn Street and Garibaldi Square.
