Providence Police arrest man suspected of homicide

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Police Department said it arrested a man in connection with an assault and homicide.

51-year-old Dwayne Gibson was charged with murder.

Police said they responded to an incident on Cliff Street on Aug. 24.

47-year-old Ricky Saunders was allegedly assaulted by Gibson, who punched the victim in the face, causing him to fall down and hit his head.

Saunders was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment, and the Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy on him on Aug. 31.

Police said Gibson was apprehended and held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions.
