Providence Police arrest suspect in shooting

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Police Department said it has made an arrest in connection with a shooting on Julian Street.

18-year-old Gary Maddox III was charged with several firearms offenses.

Officers responded to Julian Street around 7:00 p.m. on May 13 for a report of a shooting and found a 14-year-old juvenile with a gunshot wound to the foot.

Police were then notified of a second shooting victim, an 18-year-old, who had been taken to the fire station on Washington Street.

The woman was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with two gunshot wounds to her body.

Police said a vigil was taking place at the time of the shooting for a person that was stabbed and killed seven years ago at the same location.
