Providence Police Department begins 70th training academy

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- The Providence Police Department’s 70th Training Academy began Monday. The kickoff was announced by Mayor Jorge Elorza, Commissioner of Public Safety Steven M. Pare, and Colonel Hugh T. Clements.

According to the Police Department, this class is composed of:

  • 17 white men
  • 5 white women
  • 18 Hispanic men
  • 5 Hispanic women, and
  • 5 black men

“With 50 new recruits, part of the most diverse class in history, this is a great opportunity for our police department to grow and improve based upon the unique needs of our city,” said Councilwoman Jo-Ann Ryan (Ward 5). “These men and women will be trained in classroom and role play scenarios on how to best serve and protect all Providence residents and visitors.”
