Providence police: Driver charged with DUI after striking utility pole, two parked cars

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A driver has been charged with a DUI after Providence police say he jumped a curb on Orms Street and struck a telephone pole.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:35 a.m. when the 53-year-old man hit the pole, splitting it in half, and then continued up the sidewalk into the parking lot of the Marriot Hotel, according to police.

He then struck two parked vehicles but sustained no injures, according to the Providence police.

The driver was not injured and was charged with DUI and leaving the roadway.

Rhode Island Energy responded to the scene to repair the damaged pole.
