Providence police investigate Saturday night shooting

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence police are investigating a shooting that injured two people in the Olneyville section of the city.
Just after 9 p.m. on Saturday, police were called to Amherst Street for a report of six shots fired.
Providence police officers found the victim, who had crashed his car at the intersection of Sheridan Street and Manton Avenue.
The victim was identified as Dayvon Robinson, 21, who sustained one gunshot wound to the back of his right shoulder. A passenger, a 22-year-old woman, suffered an injury to her right leg in the crash.
Robinson told officers that while he was driving, a tan or gold 2007 Toyota Corolla started to follow him. The car began shooting at him from behind, through the rear windshield of his car.
He was shot once in his shoulder.
Robinson then drove across the road, through a parking lot, before crashing into a parked car in a small parking lot off of Sheridan Street.
According to police, witnesses said the suspect’s vehicle was a silver, newer model Honda Accord with tinted windows.
BCI Detectives investigated the scene and recovered shell casings.
The two victims were transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
The Providence Police Department is investigating the incident.
