PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Police are investigating a double shooting that occurred outside of a Providence Burger King Monday morning.

The shooting happened in the Olneyville section of Providence on Hartford Avenue at approximately 1 a.m. Monday.

A car parked outside of Burger King was targeted and shot at more than a dozen times and the passenger in that car has died.

Police have identified that victim as 24-year-old Raheem Alves from central falls. Alves and the driver had just left club “Passion” and were parked by Burger King.

Authorities say the suspect or suspects deliberately targeted their car and fired off multiple gunshots.

The driver was also struck and sent to the hospital, but ABC6 News was told he is expected to survive.

The chief of police tells ABC6 that he believes this was gang related.

At this point, no arrests have been made.

“We’re just keeping everything close right now, because the investigation is still early. They’re working it now. They’re back there searching the area, and we should come up with something hopefully soon,” said Major David Lapatin, Providence Police Department.

However, this was not the only shooting in Providence. In fact, it is one of four shootings over the past few days.

The others happened on Richmond Street, Plainfield Street, and Berkshire Street.

Police say they have increased patrols across the city in response to this string of violence, but at this point, they do not believe any of the shootings are related.

There is no word on any suspects at the moment.
