PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A crash that sent both a Providence police officer and a woman to the hospital is under investigation Friday evening.
According to police, the cruiser collided with another car at the corner of Portland and Friendship streets around 4:00 PM.
The impact caused the cruiser to hit an SUV which was parked along Portland Street.
The officer and the woman driving the car were taken to Rhode Island Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Tony Symonds, the owner of the SUV, was in his home, when he heard the crash happen.
"I was sitting in the living room, and then I heard a loud bang. By the time I got to the window, I saw the police car had already flipped over in the air. It was just crazy," said Symonds. "This isn’t the first time. I actually got hit over there by a garbage truck on the same exact side. I don’t have luck over here at all."
Portland street was shut down for several hours while police investigated.
At 4pm a Prov police officer was involved in a serious two car accident at the intersection of Portland/Friendship St. The officer and the driver, a 28 yr-old female, were taken to RIH. The officer was released while the female is in stable condition. Police are investigating.
