Providence police respond to two stabbings that happened within an hour

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Providence Police Department responded to two separate stabbings that happened within an hour of each other.

The first of the two stabbings happened at around 7:20 p.m. on Sunday at the Family Dollar on Cranston Street.

Police said that a witness told them she was inside of the store with her children and a friend of her children when a group of four teenage boys approached her.

She described one of the boys as Black and said that he was wearing a black ski mask, black hooded sweatshirt, and black pants. The boy got into an argument with her child’s friend and then pulled a pocket knife.

He then stabbed the friend in the upper part of his right leg. The group of teenage boys then took off from the store.

The victim was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for further evaluation.

The second stabbing happened at about 8:15 p.m. on Capron Street.

Police said that they responded to the scene for the reported stabbing and found a trail of blood leading to the second floor of an apartment building.

Investigators found the 26-year-old man that had been stabbed. Police said that the victim wasn’t cooperative and was hostile when they asked him what had happened.

He told the officers on scene that he fell on some glass and cut himself. Investigators then talked to his girlfriend, who told them that the victim had been leaning on an unknown car.

She said that a man then came outside and started arguing with her boyfriend. The woman described the unknown man as a heavy set and in his late 40’s. She said that he was wearing a grey t-shirt and shorts.

During the argument the man pulled a pocket knife and stabbed the victim in the left hand.

Investigators said that the victim refused to be taken to the hospital.
