Police report: Witness video shows fight, gunshot and person being struck by car in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police responded to the intersection of Updike Street and Peace Street Tuesday night for a report of shots fired which led to officials obtaining a witness video showing a large fight, a gunshot and a person being struck by a car.

According to a Providence police report, an officer arrived at the scene at approximately 6 p.m. and observed a subject lying on the ground next to a wooden baseball bat.

After calling for medical assistance, the officer was met by several uncooperative subjects who refused to disclose any information about the incident.

Witnesses eventually said that the subject on the ground had been struck by a gray vehicle.

An additional witness stated that she had heard a gun shot just before the subject had been struck by the vehicle, and that the shot might have originated from a nearby parking lot.

Officers searched the area and retrieved a single spent shell casing, according to police.

The report also stated that a witness provided cell phone footage of the incident, which police said shows a large altercation in the parking lot.

The fight is followed by footage of an unknown subject in a black hoodie and jeans firing a single shot toward the reported vehicle.

The vehicle then struck the subject, according to the video.

This is a developing story, stay with ABC6 for further details.
