PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- Providence Public Schools has announced town halls seeking input from families and students on how the federal stimulus dollars should be invested.

The schools will receive $128 million in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund from the American Rescue Plan Act for school operations and address the impact of the pandemic on the students.

“We invite community members to help us develop Providence Public Schools’ plan for key investment that will help accelerate learning,” said Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green. “These federal funds give us an opportunity to build a better school system that will support students’ social-emotional and academic needs in the wake of the pandemic. It is critical students and families have a seat at the table as we plan for the future.”

“The voice of the community has to be centered in our plan on how to spend federal relief funds to get students back on track,” said Interim Superintendent Javier Montañez. “We know the pandemic had a significant impact on our students and by working closely with our stakeholders we can identify needs and priorities that will help ensure the success of students going forward.”

The Town Halls will be held on the following days:

  • Saturday, February 12 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Monday, February 14, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, February 15, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
