Update: Missing 8-year-old boy has been found

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence police found 8-year-old Anthony Brown wandering on Promenade Street on Tuesday evening, hours after the district said he did not get on the bus home from school.

Surveillance video shows Brown, a 2nd grader, walking away from Pleasant View Elementary School after school, instead of getting on the bus home, and heading down Chalkstone Avenue.

“[Brown’s mother] was panicking,” neighbor Jessica Jimenez said. “She really wanted to know where her son was and I understand her as a mother’s point of view, she wants to know where her child was.”

Brown was first reported missing by the Providence Public School District just before 7 p.m. Wednesday. A spokesperson for the district says the 8-year-old was wearing camo pants, a grey hoodie and a blue backpack. Emergency responders later took him to Hasbro Children’s Hospital as a precaution to get an evaluation.

ABC6 has contacted a spokesperson for the school district to find out how Brown ended up walking away without supervision; and is still awaiting a response.
