PROVIDENE, R.I. (WLNE) – A Providence restaurant has been ordered to close while police search for a suspect in a shooting that took place on Saturday night.

The shooting happened at the Montecristo Bar and Grill just before 10 p.m.

Providence police told ABC6 News that two men were involved in a physical altercation inside of the establishment, before one man took out a gun and shot the victim in the abdomen.

The suspect fled the scene, and has not yet been apprehended by police.

Providence police said the victim, a 41-year-old man, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in critical, but stable condition.

An emergency hearing with Providence Board of Licenses was held on Sunday afternoon in regard to the restaurant.

The Board of Licenses requested that Montecristo Bar and Grill close for 72 hours while police search for the suspect. The establishment can reopen before the 72 hours are up if police deem there is no longer a threat to public safety.
