PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Baba’s Original New York System in Smith Hill has received a $10,000 grant from DoorDash to assist in the aftermath of heavy rainfall and flooding that damaged the business’ building.

The grant is funded through the Restaurant Disaster Relief Fund in partnership with Hello Alice and the Global Entrepreneurship Network.

“This grant was a lifesaver. The funds allowed us to repair damage caused by flooding and a lightning strike, shore up the building’s roof and infrastructure, replace lost supplies, and create a safe and welcoming space for our staff and customers — both old friends and new diners alike,” said Taner Toprak, owner of Baba’s Original New York system.

“The tremendous support provided by the DoorDash Restaurant Disaster Relief Fund will allow us to let the Providence community know that we are open and ready to serve the great food they have come to enjoy.”

DoorDash created the fund in 2021 aimed at helping local businesses in their efforts to recover and rebuild from disaster.
