Providence robbery attempt ends with 37 pounds of marijuana seized, 6 charged

PROVIDENCE- Providence police have charged a total of six individuals after an attempt to rob a marijuana-dealing operation lead to the seizure of 37 pounds of the drug and $142,000 in cash.

On Jan. 16, Providence police responded to a report of a house robbery in progress at a third floor apartment at 44 America St. in the city’s Federal Hill neighborhood.

Acting on witness descriptions, police pursued one suspect on foot and three others in a vehicle, leading to a lengthy cross-city chase, according a statement released today from Officer Lindsay Lague. 

After the vehicle, later found to be stolen, crashed into a a retaining wall on Academy Ave., a foot chase ended with all four suspects apprehended.

A Sig Sauer 1911 firearm was recovered from the vehicle.

Jayvon Nunez, 21; Olushola Menawonu, 20; Nathaniel Bliss, 21; and Emanuel Lantigua, 21, all Providence residents, were each charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, conspiracy, unlawful possession of a firearm, and posession of a firearm with intent to deliver marijuana.

A search of the apartment suspected as the target of the break-in later that evening lead to the seizure of cash and a large amount of marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia.

The following day a fifth suspect turned himself in.

According to police, Stevens Descades, 25, confessed that he and his roommate, Joseph M. Sanita II, 27, had sold marijuana from the apartment for the past year and a half.

They were both charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of more than 5 kilograms of marijuana, and conspiracy.
