PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The city of Providence is searching for evergreen trees for its annual holiday display.

The city needs two spruce or fir trees — 35 feet to 45 feet — for the front steps of City Hall, and a 15-foot to 20-foot tree for the Providence Ice Rink.

The tree for the ice rink will be the star of the city’s annual Christmas tree lighting.

The winning tree owner will take a photo with Mayor Brett Smiley in front of the tree during the lighting ceremony, which is set for 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1.

People can nominate their tree in an email to Allison Barry, the cultural affairs manager of Art, Culture and Tourism at abarry@providenceri.gov. Residents are reminded to include a photo and description.

The winning trees will be cut down and hauled away by the Forestry Division of the Parks Department.

They will be displayed throughout the holiday season.

The city will accept submissions through Thursday, Nov. 12.
