Providence set to roll out PVDFest with local music, food and art
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Get ready everyone, because today is the first day of PVDFest.
The two-day bash is back at Kennedy Plaza for its second year.
The fest has live music, food and art.
Thursday, Mayor Smiley gave a preview of what’s new this year, including artists competing in a live challenge, creating art on the spot.
PVDFest kicks off at 4:45 p.m.
If the weather poses a challenge, Sunday is scheduled as the rain date.
The festival takes place in the heart of the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority’s bus plaza.
As such, RIPTA has announced a series of service changes.
Starting today, all bus stops in Kennedy Plaza will be relocated to Dyer Street between Dorrance and Ship Streets to accommodate the festival.
Washington Street will be fully closed to bus traffic as well.
All routes will be detoured away from Kennedy Plaza.
RIPTA has made a temporary bus stop map for PVDFest.
As for drivers, there’s plenty of parking and road closures you need to know about.
At this hour, Dorrance Street between Washington and Fulton is fully closed until Sunday night at 10.
Starting at 3 this afternoon, Washington, Exchange, Eddy, Snow and the East Approach will all be closed until midnight Sunday morning.
Parking has been restricted on several streets downtown.
