Providence shooting victim fled incident, crashing car before 911 call
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence officials have released new details in a shooting incident that occurred Sunday night in the area of Woodward Road and Branch Avenue.
According to a statement from Providence City Hall, police responded to the area for reports of a shooting at approximately 9:30 p.m.
A vehicle with front end damage was observed by officers, with a male driver suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
The 22-year-old driver and his passenger told police that the shooting occurred while they were in the Branch Avenue McDonald’s parking lot.
They told police that they heard a single gunshot and realized that the driver had been shot.
The victim attempted to drive away from the area and struck an unknown object before coming to a stop on Woodward Road.
At this time the passenger called 911.
The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with a single gunshot wound and is currently in stable condition.
Providence police detectives are currently investigating the incident.
