Providence Starbucks workers join ‘Red Cup Rebellion,’ walk off job for new union contract
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Baristas at the Providence Financial Plaza Starbucks joined colleagues from 33 other cities in walking off the job Thursday.
The “Red Cup Rebellion” is in reaction to what Starbucks union members are calling unfair labor practices.
The 3,800 workers from 180 Starbucks stores are demanding a new contract from the company.
In a statement, a Starbucks representative said in part:
“Regardless of the union’s plans, we do not anticipate any meaningful disruption. When the union is ready to return to the bargaining table, we’re ready to talk.”
