PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A charter school teacher in Providence accused of having a sexual relationship with a student was arraigned Friday.

Francis Castillo, a teacher at Rhode Island Nurses Institute Middle College Charter High School, was charged with third degree sexual assault.

Castillo, 35, didn’t enter a plea Friday but was granted $2,000 bail. He was ordered to have no contact with the student.

The CEO of the school, Pamela McCue, said Thursday they were made aware of the allegations against Castillo on May 2. He was then reported to Providence police.

Castillo was fired from his job on May 5 and arrested on June 12.

He’s due back in court in September.
