Providence to invest $132 million in infrastructure over two years

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence Mayor Brett P. Smiley will announce $132 million in infrastructure investments over the next two fiscal years on Friday.

The FY24 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) will focus on projects designed to “improve the local quality-of-life of residents and help make Providence the best-run city in America” according to Smiley’s office.

The CIP will cover public buildings, parks, public works and improving public spaces.

The distribution of funds will allocate $26 million for sidewalk repairs and ADA accessibility enhancements, $61 million for road maintenance, street repair and resurfacing, and $35 million in sewer and stormwater management.

Additionally, $47, 635,000 will go toward publicly-owned buildings, recreation centers and public safety structures, $15,380,000 in green space and public parks enhancement, and $11,110,000 in federal funding matches toward safer streets and climate resiliency.
