Providence Water warns customers of con artists posing as their employees

PROVIDENCE, RI—There is a new scam targeting Rhode Island water customers.

Providence Water is advising customers to beware of con artists posing as their employees and trying to gain access into customers’ home.

Providence Water reminds customers to ask for identification when employees or contractors are requesting entry onto their property.

Providence Water employees and contractors require residents to be home during the time of the service and would never ask customers to leave doors unlocked for any reason.

Providence Water employees are obligated to show their ID badge upon entering a home or business.

“We encourage all of our customers to be careful and check the credentials of everyone who represents themselves as Providence Water employees or contractors on Water Board business. We also encourage customers to call us at 521-6300 x7161 whenever they have questions or concerns,” said Providence Water General Manager Ricky Caruolo.

Employees and contractors of Providence Water make appointments for meter readings, meter repairs, new installations, or bypass installations.
