PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Providence woman has been charged in Providence Superior Court with knowingly falsifying and submitting nomination papers during the 2023 First Congressional District Special Election.

Holly McClaren, 52, was indicted with two counts of falsely certifying nomination papers and two counts of filing false documents with a public official.

A warrant was subsequently issued for McClaren and she voluntarily appeared in Providence Superior Court on May 31.

The indictment alleges that from July 11-13, 2023, McClaren submitted falsified nomination papers to the Jamestown and Newport Boards of Canvassers on behalf of candidate Sabina Matos.

McClaren will next appear in court on August 8 for a pre-trial conference.
