Prudence Island fire destroys multiple buildings

PRUDENCE ISLAND, R.I (WLNE) – A large fire on Prudence Island destroyed several buildings overnight on Friday.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office said the fire broke out shortly after 11pm on a street near the ferry landing.
The Portsmouth Fire Department called for mutual aid on the scene.
Marine units from Providence, Cranston, and Warwick assisted in knocking down the flames.
Three home were completely destroyed. Officials said the fire began at the middle home, and spread to the two homes surrounding it.
One person was home at the time of the fire. After smelling smoke and seeing a glow from the flames, the person was able to escape safely.
Officials told ABC6 News that the cause of the fire has been determined as an issue with the wood stove/chimney. Officials deemed the fire accidental.
