R.I. surpasses 300 COVID-19 related deaths and reports an additional 188 cases Sunday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Rhode Island Department of Health has announced an additional 24 deaths on Sunday.

Rhode Island has now surpassed 300 COVID-19 related deaths, as the state’s death tolls stands at 320.

Additionally, 188 positive cases were added to the state’s tally since Saturday.

A slight uptick in hospitalizations Sunday with 330 people currently being treated in the hospital, compared to the 316 reported on Saturday.

83 of those hospitalized are currently being treated in the ICU and 59 of them are on a ventilator.

There have been 9,477 positive cases of COVID-19 in Rhode Island, since the beginning of the pandemic.

Governor Raimondo encouraged Rhode Islanders to get out and enjoy the nice weather, but reiterated that everyone should be following all social distancing rules.

She mentioned that she will be elaborating more specific details in regards to the phased opening for the state set to begin Sunday, May 9 throughout the coming week.

In the meantime, she urges everyone to abide by all of the current restrictions in order for us to get to phase one and lifting the current stay-at-home order.
