Racist messages left on student cars at Providence College
Those responsible are not Providence College Students
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- A group of individuals were spotted etching racial slurs into the frost of cars on the campus of Providence College Saturday night.
On Sunday the college released these surveillance photos of these individuals writing on cars parking in the lot between the hours of 9 and 11:00 Saturday night.
The college confirms that those responsible are not Providence College students.
A statement from the College’s President says this is quote outrageous and entirely unacceptable.
An incident that many students like senior Brayden Lovetere have never seen happen on campus.
“I’m a senior now and I haven’t seen or heard anything like that my entire time here. That hit me hard and I hope they find whoever did that because they should be held accountable,” Lovetere said.
“It’s very scary especially for those who’s cars were vandalized,” Sophmore Katie Ernst said. “We’re trying to promote diversity here and I couldn’t imagine waking up and seeing something like that on my car.”
One of the car owners was Jared Bynum a Red shirt Junior guard for The Providence College Men’s basketball team.
While Bynum wasn’t available for comment at today’s practice, ABC6 asked Coach Ed Cooley about the incident and the conversation he had with Jared and his team.
“When something that negative and that vulgar he’s not going to feel about it,” Cooley said. “I want to be sensitive his feelings and my players feelings. Hopefully those who did this learned something from it and we can move on.”
