Raimondo: economic opportunity still needed for the disabled

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Gov. Gina Raimondo says that as the nation celebrates Sunday's 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Rhode Island still needs to focus on expanding economic opportunities for people with disabilities.
        
Raimondo said in a statement Sunday that the state “must continue to support competitive employment opportunities for the vast majority of people with disabilities who want to work.''
        
Raimondo is hosting a bill-signing ceremony Wednesday for legislation that creates tax-free investment accounts to support services for disabled people when they reach adulthood. 

The services covered include job training and support.
        
The Governor's Commission on Disabilities is also holding a series of open forums this week to hear the concerns of people with disabilities and their families.
        
The first meeting will be on Monday afternoon at the South Providence Library.
