Rain and Wind Tonight into Monday
Our forecast for the upcoming rain and wind storm Sunday night into Monday still stands. A couple of new items include the upgrading of watches to warnings. A High Wind Warning has been issued for all coastal areas of Southern New England and expanded to include the I-95 corridor. West of 95, there is a Wind Advisory now in place. Winds will gust 40-50mph and higher along coastal areas and the Cape. Power outages are expected as weaker trees and tree limbs will be felled. A Storm Warning is in effect for coastal waters. Starting Sunday evening, seas will be dangerous for vessels through Monday night.
Rain and wind will intensify overnight across Southern New England. Rain will once again be measured in inches and flooding is expected. The Monday morning commute will be tricky with extensive ponding on the roadways. Minor to moderate river flooding is also expected with the runoff from all the rain. The rivers of greatest concern are the Pawtuxet River, The Pawcatuck River, The Wood River, and the Blackstone River. Since they are already running high from last week’s storm, moderate flooding is possible this time. A Coastal Flood Warning is now in place starting at 10 am Monday for all coastal areas including Narragansett Bay. Monday we will see high tide around noon, bringing the threat of minor to moderate coastal flooding along the south-facing coastal areas and all of Narragansett Bay. An inundation of 1-2 feet will make some coastal roads impassable during the time of high tide.
Rain and wind will continue through Monday before abating Tuesday. Temperatures during this event will be in the 50–60-degree range, ensuring this is a rain event. Dry and cooler weather follows for the remainder of the week.
