Read defense alleges ‘extraordinary governmental misconduct’ ahead of hearing

DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — A pre-trial hearing is underway in the case of Karen Read.

Read is accused of hitting and killing her boyfriend and Boston police officer, John O’Keefe with her car in 2022.

The court is hearing arguments about the defense’s motion to dismiss all charges based on “extraordinary governmental misconduct.”

We may also learn if any defense attorneys are sanctioned for alleged misconduct.

The judge questioned the defense attorney over why the payment to the firm Arcca was not disclosed.

Defense attorney Robert Alessi said he learned about the invoice right before the February 18 hearing.

Alessi claimed he was planning to address the invoice.

Attorneys are also disputing the validity of witnesses in Read’s next trial.

Her second trial is scheduled to begin in April.
