Read defense team denied mistrial over holes in O’Keefe sweatshirt

DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — Karen Read’s defense team is expected to call their last witness today as the murder retrial continues.

On Monday, the defense asked again for a mistrial after the prosecution admitted to making a mistake.

According to Boston affiliate WCVB, special prosecutor Hank Brennan questioned a defense expert about the sweatshirt John O’Keefe was wearing the night he died.

Brennan asked the expert whether they had considered holes on the back of O’Keefe’s sweatshirt, but the holes weren’t from the night of his death, they were from a crime lab expert who analyzed the evidence.

In response, the defense asked for a mistrial and to dismiss all charges against Read.

Judge Beverly Cannone denied the request.
