Read retrial resumes in wake of MSP investigator testimony

DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — Testimony in the second trial of Karen Read will begin resume Monday morning.

On Friday the Massachusetts State Police sergeant who oversaw the initial stages of the investigation testified.

Sergeant Yuri Bukhenik faced tough questioning from the defense about the work of trooper Michael Proctor, who has since been fired by state police.

Sergeant Bukhenik was also cross examined by the defense.

The defense questioned whether Bukhenik was working under the assumption that Read’s car suffered an impact from a human being.

“The evidence was pointing that impact took place because it was damage to the tail light large chunks of it was missing and we were locating pieces that were consistent with texture color and size fragments from that SUV on the lawn so I wasn’t assuming anything. The evidence was speaking to us,” said Bukhenik.
