Read retrial witness describes discovering John O’Keefe’s body, life-saving efforts

DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — Testimony continues Wednesday in the murder retrial of Karen Read with Kerry Roberts, a friend of victim John O’Keefe, taking the witness stand.

Special prosecutor Hank Brennan began testimony with Roberts with questions about a ring camera video that shows Roberts, Read and Jen McCabe going to O’Keefe’s home to look for him.

Roberts told the court that while they exited the car, Read pointed out her broken tail light and asked, “Do you think I hit him?”

Roberts was then asked to describe the moment they found O’Keefe’s body outside of a home on Fairview Avenue in Canton.

Roberts said she began CPR and McCabe called 911 and Read began performing mouth to mouth resuscitation.

Roberts also says O’Keefe was covered in snow, but there was no snow underneath his body.

Roberts said she went back to where his body was found, after first responders took his body and found his phone lying on the ground.

She was asked how long she kept the phone for, but no definitive answer was given.
