Read SUV ‘trigger event’, O’Keefe cell phone the subject of Monday retrial testimony

DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — Testimony continues Monday morning in the Karen Read murder retrial after only a half-day for the jury on Friday.

After heated debate, Judge Beverly Cannone has ruled the prosecution’s witness can testify in trial.

The prosecution expert is expected to explain a time differential recorded by Read’s SUV and John O’Keefe’s phone.

Read’s SUV indicated a “trigger event” at 12:31 a.m. and O’Keefe’s phone was locked a minute later.

The expert will testify that the phone clock was nearly 30 seconds fast and both incidents happened at the same time.

The defense argued the prosecution was changing its story and undermining their argument which the prosecution team denies.

Cannone will allow the defense leeway in their cross-examination of this expert.

The defense may also be able to recall some witnesses.
