Recovery efforts underway in Cranston after families displaced by flood
CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Some residents in Cranston are just beginning to pick up the pieces nearly 24 hours after Monday’s damaging storm.
Video from Fordson Avenue shows firefighters rescuing residents on a raft from the Riverview Terrace apartment building.
Cars can also be seen stuck in high flood waters, as well as nearby homes also damaged from high waters.
Ronny Ramirez, a homeowner told ABC 6 News that he has 16 inches of water in his home.
“I’m disappointed, I don’t know what to do, insurance is not responding the way I expected they just tell me I have to wait 24 or 48 hours for them to respond to me and in the meantime I’m going to the hotel with my family,” said Ramirez.
Ramirez’s home sits adjacent to Riverview Terrace apartments.
“I have three kids, one of them is three, another one is eight months so I have to be taking care of them it’s not comfortable,” said Ramirez.
Ramirez and his family were rescued Monday night after his home was flooded.
According to Cranston’s fire chief, a majority of the rescues happened Monday night, saying crews rescued between four and five families and got them to nearby shelters.
On Tuesday, crews said they moved one family from the Riverview Terrace apartments to a shelter on Factory Street in West Warwick.
Officials said all those in the area who needed to be rescued have since been assisted. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced.
