Red Cross helping 7 people after house fire in Providence Thursday afternoon

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence firefighters made quick work of a house fire in Providence Thursday afternoon.

Crews were called our to the home on Laurel Hill Avenue around 4:30 p.m.

Smoke and flames were seen coming from the second floor of the home.

Some people were in the area when the fire broke out.

Dwight Taylor, Neighbor said, “The flames were just pouring out of the window right there. And then he called me and we came up here.”

John Vincent, Visiting Providence said, “They were all in the house. They were just talking and I saw the flames from the backyard of our house and it was about 15-20 feet tall the flames. It was really tall.”

ABC 6 was told that everyone made it out of the house safely and firefighters were able to get the fire under control in about 20 minutes.

There is significant damage to the home including heavy smoke and water damage on the first floor and in the basement.

A firefighter did suffer minor injuries, but is expected to be okay.

The American Red Cross is helping seven people, one family who were displaced from their home as a result of the fire.
