Reed: Trump ‘big bill’ will take health care, nutrition assistance from 61,000 Rhode Islanders

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — President Donald Trump’s budget bill now heads to the senate, and Friday Senator Jack Reed will be discussing the impacts of the bill before its next vote.

Reed said 61,000 Rhode Islanders would lose health care and nutrition aid under the bill.

The senator said that the Democratic party will need to convince at least four republicans in the senate to tear out some of the policy provisions in the bill.

The Republican-led senate is expected to revise the bill over the next month.

Note – A previous version of this story stated 161,000 Rhode Islanders would lose these services. The correct number given by Senator Reed is 61,000.
