Region to take on heavy, wet snow and a chance of power outages
Winter storm warning in effect in the region with heavy wet snow through this afternoon. Along with the snow, we’re expecting winds to pick up and give way to the potential for power outages. The peak of the wind will be by this afternoon. On the Cape and Islands, gusts may be up to 60 mph leading to Blizzard-like conditions this afternoon. There is also a moderate to low risk for coastal flooding during high tide this afternoon. Areas well south of the Mass Pike may see accumulations up to 10″ inches of snow. Along the Pike and North could see anywhere from 3-5 to 1-3 over Route 2 Corridor. Locally, we’re anticipating between 5-10″. Overnight into the next couple of days, conditions will be dry and cold. Wind chill values tomorrow, Valentine’s day, will be in the teens. Chance for light snow Thursday night.
