Registered sex offender allegedly lures minor into car in Burrillville

BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (WLNE) — A registered sex offender has been charged with child-snatching and enticement of a minor after allegedly kidnapping a 12-year-old girl on Friday.
Authorities alleged that Chandler Cardente, 27, picked the 12-year-old student up from Burrillville Middle School and and lured her into his vehicle that afternoon.
The family of the girl reported her missing later that evening, according to police.
Police monitored the girl’s phone, connecting her to Cardente, who had been in contact with the girl online since July, posing as a 17-year-old boy.
Burrillville police notified the Warwick and Cranston police departments to be on the look out for Cardente.
After learning that police were searching for him, he kicked the girl out of his car, leaving her on Jefferson Boulevard in Warwick.
Cranston police were able to track down Cardente shortly after he threw the girl out of his car. He was taken back to Burrillville for questioning.
Cardente was remanded to the Adult Correctional Institute, after being in violation of his parole from an incident seven years ago.
Police found the missing girl at about 12:30 a.m. on Saturday morning on the side of Jefferson Boulevard.
The girl’s family took her to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for an examination.
