A Rehoboth man was arrested and charged with OUI after failing a sobriety test on the scene of an accident in Swansea Friday night.

Police arrested George Agostini, 25, of Rehoboth after they detected the smell of alcohol in his breath and performed a field sobriety test on Route 6 near Mason Street on May 29th.

Officials say at 7:26 p.m. they received multiple calls of the crash involving two vehicles. The driver of the first vehicle, a 2008 Toyota pickup was Gary Ruggiero, 49, of Swansea and the driver of the second vehicle, a 2002 BMW was Agostini.

Agostini’s passenger Mathew Rose, 25, of Rehoboth was trapped inside the vehicle and extricated by the Jaws of Life.

Rose suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Roger Williams Hospital.

Agostini was charged with operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

Officials concluded Ruggiero was driving west on Route 6 and allegedly crashed with Agostini who was driving east and turned left onto Mason Street.

Agostini was released and is scheduled to be arraigned June 1st in the Fall River District Court.
