Rehoboth police arrest 2 after chase involving stolen vehicles

REHOBOTH, Mass. (WLNE) — Two people from New Bedford are facing charges after Rehoboth police recovered two stolen vehicles after a chase late Monday.

Rehoboth officers were alerted by police in Berkley around 10:30 p.m. about a stolen GMC pickup truck on Winthrop Street.

A tracking system pinned the truck to the Cumberland Farms parking lot.

The person driving the truck hopped out and got into a BMW sedan parked next to it when cruisers arrived.

Police ran the plates and followed as it fled east on Winthrop Street.

The BMW came back as reported stolen out of Fall River.

Officers then got word that one of the people allegedly involved with the stolen cars was still at the Cumberland Farms.

The officers then split up, chasing the BMW into Taunton and returning to the store parking lot. Police arrested 23-year-old Cye Key of New Bedford shortly after.

Officers involved in the chase said the BMW struck one of the cruisers, causing front end damage.

Four people got out of the BMW and ran down Bridget Drive. Police caught one of them, a 16-year-old from New Bedford, and took them into custody.

Cye and the teenager were both brought back to the Rehoboth Police Department.

Key faces several charges, including receiving a stolen motor vehicle, carrying a dangerous weapon, contributing to the delinquency of a child, and conspiracy.

The teenager was charged with two counts of receiving a stolen vehicle, possession of burglarious tools, receiving stolen property under $1,200, and conspiracy.

They were both held on bail and will be arraigned in Taunton District Court.

Both of the stolen vehicles were recovered by Rehoboth police. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 508-252-3722.
