"You heard the crash, you heard it hit the tree,” said neighbor Shirley Auclair.
Those living in the area of 515 Tremont Street jolted Tuesday night, after hearing screeching tires and a loud bang.
"I got up right away and I said this has to be an accident,” recalled eyewitness Jennifer Melo.
Multiple witnesses called 9–1–1, then jumped into action, trying to save 37-year-old Kevin Jarvis. Jarvis was driving a Dodge Ram pick up, when he veered off the road, and crashed into a tree.
"My friends husband and I ran back inside the house. We got buckets of water and a fire extinguisher, and on our way back we noticed that my dad was already inside the vehicle trying to pull out the person,” said Melo.
Rescue crews later showed up to assist the efforts. The Fire Department pulled him from the truck, but it was too late. Jarvis died on scene.
Local residents in the area say crashes like this tend to be very common and severe. Mostly because of the winding roads, and densely wooded areas surrounding the roadways.
"There have been numerous accidents. About 6 months ago a car completely flipped over,” said Auclair.
Residents say lack of road lights and speeding are the causes of most accidents on their street. Police are still investigating what caused Jarvis to veer off the road.
