DA: Boyfriend of missing teen charged with murder after human remains found on property
REHOBOTH, Mass. (WLNE) — Remains consistent with the body of 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro were found on her boyfriend’s property on County Street on Tuesday, District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III said.
Quinn said police obtained a search warrant for 107 County Street on Tuesday, which was the home of Gregory Groom, who Kylee was in a dating relationship with.
After executing the search warrant Tuesday afternoon, Quinn said “human remains consistent with those of Kylee Monteiro have been recovered.”
According to the district attorney’s office, Groom allegedly assaulted Kylee Monteiro on County Street on Aug. 6.
Monteiro was reported missing the next day on Aug. 7 by Groom, according to Quinn.
She was 11 weeks pregnant when she was reported missing.
Police are now awaiting confirmation on the remains from the medical examiner.
Groom was initially charged on Tuesday with aggravated assault and battery on a pregnant person, domestic assault and battery, and intimidation of a witness.
Quinn said Groom will now be charged with the murder of Kylee Monteiro, and will be arraigned on Aug. 20 in Taunton District Court.
Kylee’s family has set up a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses. Anyone interested in donating can visit the GoFundMe here.
Additionally, a spokesperson for Kylee’s family said they’re holding a vigil for her at 7 p.m. on Aug. 23 at the Redway Plain on Winthrop Street.
