SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Police are investigating remains found on the Charlestown-South Kingstown line.

State Police could not confirm whether those remains found at a property on Matunuck School House Road are human or not.

The property is near Saint James Chapel. The reverend there, Father Paul Desmarais, tells ABC6 News the chapel used to own the property, before selling it to a developer in October. He says the developer recently began construction on a project to build houses there, and that he believes the remains were found when workers started laying down a cement foundation.

"There was still the crime lab over there, a couple of cars over there…" Father Desmarais told ABC6 News on Sunday, after the scene had been cleared. "They began laying the foundations down for the houses they were going to build, and that’s when these remains were found."

Father Desmarais also told ABC6 News some people speculate the remains could remain to former mobster Danny Walsh, who lived on the property and went missing back in the 1930’s. "Immediately people started to speculate – they found him," he said.

The investigation is still in its early stages.
