“Reopen RI” protesters head to RI State House Saturday
PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE-TV) – Some Rhode Island residents will be protesting at the State House on Saturday to call on Gov. Gina Raimondo to “Reopen RI.”
Why they are doing it?
According to the main organizer of the event, Wendy Hail, they’re doing it to advocate for small businesses.
“This is ridiculous,” Hail told ABC6 Thursday. “The big businesses are making money, the small businesses are closing or relying on the state.”
Hail says they will practice social distancing and wear masks throughout the protest.
She added that she urges the sick to stay home but wants the state to “let the rest of us out.”
Hail says she’s received multiple death threats and does not want to show her face on camera until Saturday’s protest because of this.
The protesters created a Facebook event, “KNOCK It OFF Rally Ri State House,” to spread awareness of the protest.
The protest is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
