Reports: Rhode Island Governor Biden’s pick for Commerce Secretary

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo is expected to be nominated to President-Elect Joe Biden’s cabinet, according to a report from the New York Times.

The Times is reporting that Governor Raimondo is expected to be announced as Biden’s pick for Commerce Secretary.

Rumors of such an appointment have been circulating for more than a week and the Governor’s office downplayed them just last week.

ABC6 News has reached out to the Governor’s office for comment but has not yet heard back.  There’s also been no confirmation from President-Elect Biden’s transition team.

If Governor Raimondo were to vacate her office, Rhode Island Lieutenant Governor Daniel McKee would be in line to take over as Governor.
