Rescue crews search for man who fell into Pawcatuck River

WESTERLY, R.I. (WLNE) — Rescue crews searched for a missing man in the Pawcatuck River on Sunday night.

Westerly Police Chief Paul Gingerella said a 40-year-old man fell into the river at 7:10 p.m. near Main Street.

Gingerella said the department found footage of the man falling in while standing up on the rocks beside the water.

Multiple agencies assisted in the search, including the Coast Guard and Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.

All units were cleared from the scene at 10 p.m., aside from the Coast Guard, who continued to search from the air.

Gingerella said crews plan to reconvene in the morning.
