Rescued seal named ‘Cranberry’ returns to the ocean after months of rehabilitation
CHARLESTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — A seal rescued on Block Island this summer returned to the ocean Wednesday morning.
Mystic Aquarium received a report of a sick and injured seal on June 30.
First responders of the program and the local community helped bring the seal, called Cranberry, back to the aquarium for rehabilitation care.
Cranberry had a severe wound and bone infection in her hind flipper, several other wounds, and a respiratory infection.
The seal had to have part of her hind flipper amputated.
After months of recovery, she is ready to return to Rhode Island waters.
