Raynham police chase ends in crash, suspect to be arraigned

RAYNHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — A wanted man from Taunton is facing a slew of serious charges after leading police on a high-speed chase in several Massachusetts communities.
The chase ended in a bad crash hurting five people and causing a chaotic scene.
Police say the driver that started it all was going upwards of 80 miles an hour as he weaved around traffic for miles down Route 138 from Easton to Raynham before crashing his car.
24-year-old Alexander Cruz is now in custody.
Police say it all started when an Easton Police officer attempted to pull the over for an expired inspection sticker.
Cruz sped off down Route 138 making his way into Raynham. Officers there on alert throwing tire deflation devices into the road.
A short time later, Cruz crashed colliding with at least two other cars.
Part of the roadway was shut down for hours and it was all hands on deck to stop the wanted man.
“The fire trucks, the ambulance, the police just flying by. I could see where the road was blocked off from where I work so I knew something was going on,” explained Olivia Shannon.
Five people were hurt in the crash including Cruz. His passenger was airlifted to a Boston Hospital with serious injuries.
Cruz’s many charges include assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He also has three separate arrest warrants out of taunt on.
Cruz is set to be arraigned Wednesday in Taunton District Court.
